my daughter has just started to self catheterize because she is not emptying her bladder completely. She can not put it in herself so i have to do it for her, but as i pushing it in to her bladder i can see on her tummy that she is holding her breathe so that she will not pass any urine, i have told her that it is for her own good. i have even tried distracting her while i put it in, but she hates me doing it. Would it be ok whilst i am pushing it in if i gently press over her bladder to make her pass urine. I will press in a way that she thinks i am tickling her tummy.

Answer
Yes, I think this if fine but see if you can have your daughter take some slow deep breaths as you start to pass the catheter. Show her how to do this. Tell her to concentrate on her breathing - on her chest moving up and down.
