I have just received an appointment to have a cystoscopy procedure i know how it is done but my question is because i have no control over my bladder during the procedure if i start to urinate what will happen will he/she stop or will they try and express my bladder so they dont have to wait for me to finish urinating. The last time i had it done one of the nurses express my bladder and pressed really hard on my abdomen i was sore for days afterwards

Answer
You should urinate before you have the cystoscopy. If you still have urine in your bladder, the doctor will drain the urine through the cystoscope and you should not have a problem. We do not press on the patient's bladder to express urine.
