My 8 year old daughter has had underwear 'soiled' with fecal
My 8 year old daughter has had underwear 'soiled' with fecal matter often for the last six months. I have her keeping a journal of how often she has a bowel movement and she has had one daily. However I'm sure the soiling isn't from poor wiping. She seems unaware that this is happening though we've discussed it often. She had vesicoureteral reflux (grade 3 bilaterally) diagnosed when she was four. She was on prophylactic antibiotics for two years and has 'grown out' of the VUR. She saw a urologist about six months ago because she seemed to be having a problem with urine leaking (very small amounts). The urologist stressed she should be on a regular 'going' schedule-which seems to have helped-but the fecal incontinence seems to be getting worse. At the appointment I mentioned the soiled underwear to the urologist and she seemed very dismissive of the problem. Is it possible the two things (VUR and the fecal incotinence) could be related? Should I have her see a urologist (or a different specialist) again? Thank you in advance for answering my question.

Answer
I do not think the 2 things are related. I feel you should be able to handle your daughter's fecal soiling through diet and daily bowel movements. You may want to consult with a dietician so speak with your pediatrician about your daughters problems.
