I am writing for my mother about my father. He has lewy body disease and is 74 years old. He needs assistance walking, eating and using the bathroom. He does wear adult diapers. He gets up frequently at night to urinate. He wears a nighttime pad and underwear but he is constantly taking it off and picking at the diaper. This causes a mess for my mom to clean up and she is constantly doing laundry as he soaks the sheets, blankets, etc. I realize it is partly the disease that makes him do this but what can my mom do to cope with this? She is constantly getting up in the middle of the night to deal with my dad. A lot of times he is out of it and doesn't even remember picking at the diaper and tearing it off. Help! Thanks.

He may not like the type of product as many people find a 'diaper-like' product irritating. I sugegst your mother find something else to contain the urine leakage. You may want to look at TENA products as they have a pad and pant system that is good at containing urine and is less irritating. Another option is for your Dad to use an external condom catheter at night. Also what about a urinal next to the bed?
