Hi, I am just under 30 and I have had this problem for about three years. When I use the bathroom. I leak after. I can even shake it and it will still leak. The doc a yearago says loose weight. I did that and still the problem is there. everyone thinks it must be a weight issue. IT IS NOT! this just started in the last three years and I have lost alot of weight. I am down to the weight I was in high school and really 5 pounds less. so, what can this problem be. I have no health insurance. what can I do to fix this. thanks

Answer
It sounds as though you have 'post void dribble.' Post-void dribble occurs in men and is when a small amount of urine escapes out of the tip of the penis, usually when the man is replacing his penis in his clothing or walking away from the toilet. The man may not be aware that the urine is leaking Usually, it is caused by a pooling of urine in the middle segment of the male urethra (tube that is at the base of the bladder and where the urine passes through) called the bulbar urethra. This bulbar urethra is a muscle that contracts, causing urine to be pushed back in the bladder or pooling in the bulbar urethra. The main reason may be because the urethra has lost muscle tissue that supports it. This problem is helped by a technique, which allows the urine to empty out of the bulbar urethra. You can try the following: • At the end of voiding, use the pads of your finger to exert a firm, upward pressure behind your scrotum. •Now move your fingers forward in a stroking motion, as shown in the 2nd picture below. Stroking will “milk out” the trapped urine and force the urine into the end of the urethras where it can be removed by shaking or squeezing the urethra. • Doing 3 or 4 quick pelvic floor muscle contractions can also force the urine out.
