My 89 year-old uncle seems to have urinary incontinence. Since he lives alone, he never wears underwear and urinates in a glass, in his paint (he's an artist) and frequently on the floor. Because it's hard for him to get around, I had assumed he just couldn't get to the bathroom in time. Recently he has started defacating as he urinates- like diarrhea, but without the frequency. Would this be a sign of fecal incontinence? Should I get him to a gastroenterologist?

Answer
Yes, you should have your father see both a gastroenterologist and a urologist as it sounds as though he has both urinary and fecal incontinence. A geriatrician may also help as he may need to a mental status evaluation.
