I have recently been in hospital undergoing tests & I am awaiting my second urethral dilatation. One of the test measured my urine flow rate & my bladder was scanned afterwards to see how much urine was left - There was 122mls still left in my bladder. Is this amount a significant amount to cause problems such as frequent UTI's & Low back & flank pain? and could this be an indication that I have urine retention? I am hesitant to start passing urine straight away & seem to stop & start. It is painful to pass urine & I always feel like I cannot completely empty my bladder. I have been in hospital earlier this year as I could not empty my bladder - I was catherterised for 1 week. The term Fowler's syndromw has been mentioned. How is this condition diagnosed & could my symptoms be an indication of this syndrome? Any information is gratefully received.

Answer
The syndrome you mention can cause urinary problems. 122mLs for someone your age is a little high. You need to be followed by a urologist and make sure you post void residuals (this is what is in the bladder 10 to 20 mins after voiding) are monitored.
