i am sending this email to thank you for your advice it couldn't have come at a better my catheter was due to changed on the day i received the email. After i read your email reply i went and laid down on my bed and felt my bladder for fullness and it was full so i pressed down over my bladder and felt the urine flow out and then saw it in the drainage bag, i pressed for 5 minutes to make sure it was empty. I always thought that if you had an indwelling catheter you shouldn't express your bladder because you could pop the balloon. and do damage to your bladder.

Answer
It sounds as though your catheter is not draining properly. You should not have to express the urine from your bladder. I do not think you can 'pop' the balloon as I have never seen it happen. Go see your doctor and tell him your problem.
