In October I was diagnosed with a bladder infection and received treatment. After the course of antibiotics, I developed tenderness and burning after urinating along with bloating and pelvic pain. I have seen a urologist who examed me and performed a cysoscopy and diagnosed me with Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. I have been taking Elmiron and Levbid since November/December. The pain and bloating has diminished immensely since inception, however, I still continue to have tenderness, itching and uncomfortableness on the labia. I have been prescribed estrace or to use a cortosoine cream as needed. I constantly have to wear a mini pad due to the creams. I would like to know what can stop this pain and itching. Sometimes I feel very raw. I am not sexually active at this time. I have had a complete hysterectomy in 1989 and have taking HRT since then. Thank you for your help.

Answer
It sounds as though you may have vulvodynia which can cause labial pain and itching. It sounds as though your physician has prescribed the correct treatments. You can use estrogen vaginal tablets (VagiFem) or a vaginal ring (Estring)if you find the cream messy.
