I delivered my son on march 11 of 2006. I had a very hard labor which involved forcepts due to my son being face up. Since the delivery, i have had shooting pains in my vaginal area which come and go. In between this, my vaginal area is completly numb. I am afraid there may be some nerve damage down there. There is absolutly NO feeling at all. I have also had problems holding my bladder. Its not even like it feels asleep, there is just nothing, no feeling. My husband and i talked to my O.B. and all she recommended was pelvic floor therapy. Does this even work?? Has this ever happened to anyone else? How often does this happen?? I have been unable to find any information about this 'numbness' on the internet. Please help me, thank you.

Answer
It sounds as though you have pelvic nerve or pudendal nerve damage. This mmay improve over time. I suggest you start on pelvic floor muscle therapy adn possible electrical stimulation. This treatments are sucessful. The forceps may have caused the nerve damage.
