I have been dealing with oab since 2000. I also had extremely severe and irreglar mens. cycles since then. After seeing several docs for years, my doc recommended a sling procedure for my bladder and removing my uterus. I feel confident about this and I love my doc and have full confidence in him. I was just wondering if you had any additional advice or help on the situation. I was scheduling a tubal ligation at the time of the sling procedure and thats how we came up with the hysterectomy instead, because of my history. My ovaries will be left in place. He will also try to remove the uterus through the vagina. What do you know about these two procedures and their success rate?

Answer
If you have overactive bladder symptoms, I am unsure how a sling procedure and a hysterectomy will help your symptoms. A sling procedure is usually done for stress urinary incontinence. A hysterectomy may worsen overactive bladder symtpoms of urgency and frequency. I would speak with your doctor about the expected outcome of the surgery he is recommending. Treatments for overactive bladder include medications and behavioral treatments.
