Endocrinologist vs. Urologist

My doctor told me he's going to have to send me to a specialist, possibly a Urologist, to deal with my low test levels. <br> <br> Who would deal with this problem better? An endocrinologist or a urologist? What is the main difference between the two when dealing in low test levels?<br> <br> Thanks.

The more important consideration is whether the doctor is interested in and experienced at treating men with low testosterone. Urologists are usually the first to see men with symptoms of low testosterone such as erectile dysfunction and probably would have more experience treating them with testosterone supplements. The best way to proceed is to inquire if the specialist has experience in this area.

Have recently been tested by NHS at <br> 17.5 mol/L Testosterone (Reference range 10.5-36.0)which is considered normal.I am a 51 year old male & have been suffering with low libido,low energy levels,depression,anxiety,sweating,cholesterol 7.45(High).Have been treated with Prozac for anxiety which has helped slightly but wonder if my condition could be due Andropause as symptoms seem to be classic.As NHS consider my test results normal would you recommend further tests?<br> Thankyou

Hi Paul,<br> Welcome to the forum. <br> <br> Most knowledgeable doctors prescribe testosterone supplements based on a patient's symptoms rather than on the actual testosterone level alone. You need to find a doctor who will put you on supplements for a 3-5 month trial to see if your symptoms improve. If they don't improve, you can look for other causes.<br>
