Very New to Testim
Hello,
I just started Testim today after being diagnosed with Low-T. Not sure what my tested levels were at the moment, but have a call into my Dr to get this info.
My wife is very concerned with this drug. She has read that it is dangerous to her and my 6 year old daughter. My first dose (1%) was this morning and I followed the instructions for application. I have noted a strong smell on my hands and I am afraid to touch anything much less my daughter. I am wearing a shirt, but my wife is still nervous about it. What can I tell my wife that would ease her concerns?
I want to give this treatment a chance. I have weak erections, I have been gaining weight in which I thought was normal, decrease in muscle mass, trouble concentrating at work, etc….
At first I thought I was ADD or something and tried different treatments for that along with Cialis. I got some positive results at first, but nothing long term. When my blood results came in with results of low-t and started reading the symptoms I was eager to try Testim.
Please offer any advice and on the application and prevention of transferring to my wife a child.

Thanks,

How to use Testim and Androgel safely
Hi,

As long as you wash your hands after applying the gel, your wife and children will be safe. Wait 1/2 an hour after application (when most of the testosterone has been absorbed) to have close body contact with women or children or just wear a T-shirt.

some interesting info
"Short term use" which looked at using Testim for 90 days at normal clinical doses show side effects like increased PSA levels, acne, hypertension and haematological changes.

An eHow article on the dangers of Testim states that "the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) warns users that some children have shown signs of early puberty when Testim is accidentally rubbed off on them. Children may grow pubic hair and behave aggressively. The FDA warns that women could develop acne or new body hair when exposed to the drug." It doesn't seem to extremely harmful affects or any indicators concerning medical insurance The FDA lists ways to avoid this, including only applying Testim to areas covered by clothing, and by washing with soap and water thoroughly before skin to skin contact occurs."

"Testim can aggravate problems that already exist in users with enlarged prostate glands. The National Institutes of Health noted that increased PSA (prostate-specific antigens) counts were the most common side effect seen in an hsa test group."

"Other possible dangers of Testim include swelling of the ankles, feet and other parts of the body. For patients who already suffer from kidney, heart and liver problems, this can lead to serious complications. Other concerns include swollen and painful breasts, blood clots and sleep apnea."

although these issues should obviously be monitored by yourself. It seems that simple washing with soap and water before contact should be efficient, so your wife's concerns, although valid, are easily mitigable. Good luck.

Very New to Testim, concerned, need advice.
I am a 60 year old male. I am borderline diabetic, don't take anything for it. I have a stent in my heart and have been diagnosed with microvascular disease - with chronic stable angina, I was on Imdur but hated the headaches and instead opted for ECP therapy. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and have been on both Methotrexate orally with Remicade infusions every eight weeks. I take an Ambien and half of a Clonozapam nightly to get four hours of sleep. Up until recently my sex life was good, verility good, energy good and when enhanced with Levitra I had very fullfilling experiences with my wife of 30 years. I have a very low PSA count. Lately, difficulty urinating, anemia, loss of muscle mass, low energy, and ED led my doctor to test my testosterone level - it was 325; he said it was low and prescribed Testin. I read about the potential side effects and decided to give it a try anyway. Increased muscle mass in upper body, better more vital energy level, slight weight gain, pains in my groin area, testicles seem smaller and feel tender, increased libido and desire but not increased performance, even when combined with Levitra there is no ability to maintain an erection to completion. I feel better overall, but my sex life has gone downhill from where it was. I am concerned about testicular atrophy, reducing my natural ability to produce testosterone, any potential increase in risk of prostate cancer, and potential permanent impotency if I stop using Testim. Can someone please share some info that would let me know if what I am experienceing is typical, if I should stop, give me advice, anythng you have to say would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I started Testim at the beginning of May 2010, so it's been only three weeks so far; as I said -very new to this.
Thank you for your input and advice.
Gus

Sounds like you have a few questions to be asking your Dr. I am glad that you have gotten help as a lot of men will not talk to there Dr about any issue like this. I also understand that you would be worried about your wife and daughter having contact with your RX. I agree that as long as you wait and wash your hands you should be good. Just be careful if you are buying health insurance. You need to make sure this drug is covered under your new insurance, as it can get expensive.

I have been reading a lot about Testim and now that I found out it's unsafe for you to touch your loved one after applying it, it makes me worry even more. My husband don't have low T yet but my friend's husband is and I just to want know whether there's any way to prevent it in the first place.
