testostrone
Looking to share dialog with users of androgel or testim. TRT is not an exact science and would like opinions other than the makers and marketers of testostrone gel.

Like you I used Androgel for about 5 months, the 2nd and 3 month showed good improvement in my mental health and energy, but it did nothing for my libido or erections ( which I had no problem with anyway)After the 3rd month everything went back to pretreatment levels i.e. blood count, energy, disposition etc. I changed over to Testim about 30 days ago and can see lots of change in many areas, especially libido and erections (nightime during sleep) that wake me up. My energy level is back up and like you I have gained about 5 lbs in muscle mass. If I stay where I'm at now I will be satisfied, but I am wondering if I will have the same reaction to Testim that I experienced with Androgel after about 2-3 months.
Since starting to use this medication I have researched many, many avenues of steriods and long term use. I really can't find any negatives to speak of since this doseage is really very, very small when compared to those who abuse steriods. In fact I'm not sure that when used in doseages this small there is a real need to have federal restrictions on its use ( class III ). This is the only medication I have ever used in my life other than Advil or aspirin (I'm 64) so as one can see I consider using medication a long time before taking them. The other thing that bugs me, that other than the fact it has FDA approval, there is no reason for the high price for this item. This should be a generic drug and while I'm not sure about over the counter sales, it certainly should be a drug one could ask the druggist for in a compound.

If you are 64 and feel better with
Testim that is great. I know this medictaion
is costly, but it's maufacturing quality
is very consistent. I do knnow of several
compoounding pharmacies which do make testosterone cream. I do not know of their efficiency though ? As to injections compared to transdermals I have studied many other groups and Dr's info which states that the transdermals give you a more sustained release. Your DHT levels remain a little more elevated because of the receptors in your skin. This means better libido than using the injectables. I am getting a good result from
the 2 tubes of Testim I use, and I am 44. My only other problem is my loss of muscle and strength.

Michael

I don't think I would ever think about using injectables. Research shows very little day to day consistency. There is a company in Minn. Paddock, Ind, that's been tentatively approved for a generic form of Testim or Androgel, however, I'm do not know if or when they will go into production.
If you are using two tubes daily, what does your doctor tell you about long term use? I sort of feel that those of us using this are on our own with little real help from the medical field. I certainly do not believe the data from the 42 month study done at UCLA sponored by Androgel.

Longevity of Transdermals
I've also read that 42 month study on Androgel. You wonder if what they are saying is only for their sales. I do know that there are other companies developing there drugs via the skin. I believe that we are entering a whole new era of drug deliveries. I personally know of people who have had injectables all of their life and have never really been satisfied. I believe that Testim
or any other transdermal testosterone will be safe since it is exactly what our bodies have been producing in the past. We must have regular blood profiles though to screen out any possible dangers.
Michael,

Androgel/Weak erection
I am a 31 year old man who has been experiencing weak erections for a few years now, and after reading about low testosterone levels and its link to weak erections i immediately went to a urologist and stated my concerns and asked for a testestrone levels test, the urologist was quick to brush me off and gave me a prescription of cialis. i insisted that he checked my testostrone levels and when the results came back - i was right my testostrone was very low.it was about 187 ng/dl and my prolactin level was a little higher than normal about 22.5?? the urologist refered me back to my primary physcian to do a number of other tests. and again my T.level was low but higher than before. this time about 241ng/dl.and it showed my hematocrit to be a little high 50.4 or something like that. my physician wanted to start a HRT program but i asked to see an endocrinologist. after showing the results to the endocrinologist he order an MRI which that results showed there was a tumor about 3mm in my pituitary gland. my proclatin levels though were in the normal range this time and my T-level went up to 665ng/dl. the endocrinologist downplayed the tumor and said it was too small and was not significant. another round of test was ordered and this time the T-level dropped down to 321ng/dl. the doctor concluded that my T-levels were flactuating and he started me on 5g androgel for a month. this had no effect at all-felt like a waste of time and now my dose has been upped to 10g. a number of other tests were done and everything else was fine. my problem lies with the Prolactin level that looks like it is fluctuating, the hematocrit level which looks like it is fluctuating, off course the T-level is a problem as it is definitely fluctuating. my biggest concern is - 1)is ther anything like a small tumor? and 2) does different size tumors affect individuals differently no matter what the size? 3)has anybody had such a confusing situation? 4)do i need to see another endocrinologist to prescribe medication to shrink tumor or surgery and medication to keep prolactin below normal ranges although latter tests show them to be normal.? please advise.

Androgel/Weak Erection
Pituitary tumors can be a bit complex to manage. Here is some good information about the various types: http://pituitarysociety.med.nyu.edu/vance1.htm
The different types require different treatments. Your endocrinologist should monitor your hormone levels to be sure the tumor is under control. Give the one you are seeing enough chance to do that but don't hesitate to consult a new one if you are not getting the answers you need.

Low T- Hernia
I am 39 and recently diagnosed with low T. I have been using 1 tube of Testim (50mg) per day for three weeks now. I feel signifigant improvement in all areas. I am healthy and wonder why I have this condition- as statistically I am young for this. A few years ago, I had laproscopic inguinal hernia repair. Does anyone have any information that could link the hernia/ or repair to my low T?
