Effects of Testim
This is my second month of using Testim. I began at 50mg per day with remarkable increases in libido and performance within 3 days, along with an elevated mood and sense of well being. Three weeks into using Testim, my libido and performance dropped noticeably. On the suggestion of the forum and my doctor, I increased the dose of Testim to 100mg per day. Within the first week of increased dosage, libido, performance returned to a more comfortable level, although not to the level of the first two weeks. It seems that the natural production of testosterone and other hormones (luteinizing hormone, for example) shut down considerably soon after testosterone replacement therapy begins, thus causing I believe the sudden reduction of libido and performance after my second week or so. This suggests the need for some men to regulate the amounts, and maybe even the application sites and times to apply Testim. Hopefully over time the effects of Testim will level out and cause positive long term effects. Overall, my early assessment the product is highly favorable ....my current sense of feeling and acting "youthful" is great...for a 56 year old.

Effects of Testim
Welcome back, Thomas. Your comments are very interesting and helpful to others, I'm sure. I'm sure the makers of Testim don't promise to make you wealthy -- just happy, healthy, and maybe wise!

Effects of Testim
After using Testim @ 100mg per day for a month and a half the endocrinologist’s report shows that my testosterone levels are too high…something like 1150 total and 240 free. Therefore, the doctor has cut me back to 50mg. This is disappointing of course, since I went from fairly low levels of testosterone with typical negative effects, to enjoying improvement in mood, muscle and overall strength using 100mg of Testim. I hope that the reduction will not be noticeable.

Effects of Testim
I am a 35 year-old male who has been using Testim about 3 months due to having a testosterone level around 300 and very low sex drive. I would second Thomas' comment that there was an intense effect in libido and (in my case) aggressiveness the first 3 weeks of using the 50mg daily dosage, somewhat dropping off after that point. <br> <br> I would also second Thomas' comment that, in the gym, after "plateauing" with the amount of weight I could lift before Testim, I found I could suddenly lift more - and more - and more. I have been pushing myself HARD at the gym, and it definitely shows in increased muscle mass and in losing 1-2" in my waist, without losing any net poundage.<br> <br> I've also experienced a HUGE increase in appetite with Testim. I am trying to keep eating healthy rather than gorgig on everything in sight. (By contrast, a friend of mine, who started TRT about the same time I did, has not gained any muscle but he's added a 10-15# pot belly.)

If there a true difference in these drugs? If you want to read more about why I ask please read my other posts on androgel. I am just looking for answers to help me through this. It is hard to stick with somoene who has no sexual desire especially at my age. Any help would be great.<br>

testim
I was on Androgel 50mg and my levels went to 419 which my dr thought were too hi.Was put on a compounded 25mg/2cc testosterone which did not help me much at all.I have tried acetyl-L- carnitine(amino acid)along with toncat ali which did a little good but not as much as I had expected.<br> My dr now has me on Testim/50mg but I have not been on it long enough to see any benefit yet.My first impressions are that Androgel works very well indeed. The Testim is a little sticky on the skin and I wonder if the additional stuff it has in it carries any long term effects.<br> Some one out there surely has a lower cost answer HRT.There is no reason to charge sooooo much for this simple product.<br> By the way I am a 62 year old male.<br> Thanks for reading this.<br>

Testim v Androgel- Testoterone
Interesting that your doctor scaled you back.I know it varies from hospital to hospital machine but I thought that normal for a male ranged from: 437 to 707 ng/dl <br> Though some hospitals have higher norms.

Testim v Androgel- Testoterone
The values for testosterone that we accept are: <br> <br> Normal for a young man: <br> 317 ng/dL total testosterone<br> 7.34 ng/dL free testosterone<br> 86-231 ng/dL bioavailable testosterone<br> <br> These are different amounts based on what is being measured. As men age, their free testosterone and bioavailable testosterone may decline as their total testosterone stays the same or goes up.

Alternatives to HRT
I am currently taking 5g Andorgel daily. Although my total t level was around 300 for a 52 year old, it had been declining and I had all the symptoms of andorpause. I believe my problems were triggered by the use of statins for high cholestoral. While I have noticed improvement, I am trying to balance the positive effects of HRT with the negitives of long term use. I have read that a combination of 2gm propionyl-L-carnitine plus 2gm acetyl-L-carnitine are as effective as testosterone replacement. Any truth to the claim?

Alternatives to HRT
I could find only one study on this topic:<br> <br> <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&li st_uids=15072869" target="_blank">http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&li st_uids=15072869</a><br> <br> "Carnitine versus androgen administration in the treatment of sexual dysfunction, depressed mood, and fatigue associated with male aging."<br> <br> Evidently there is SOME truth to this but you need to read more about possible side effects of propionyl-L-carnitine and acetyl-L-carnitine. They may have effects that no one has studied yet. Talk with your doctor and see if he'll work with you on a trial of this alternative. If the side effects don't worry him, you and he may discover something interesting.<br>
